On Sunday 8th Novemeber I will be spending the day in Parkhurst prison with some of my staff from my 2 Isle of Wight shops.

Heres a bit of background....

Parkhurst Prison was built as a military hospital in 1805, then transformed to a prison for boys awaiting deportation, mainly to Australia, as part of the Parkhurst act of 1835.

By 1847 a new wing (C Wing) had been built by prisoners who actually dug the clay and baked the bricks. This wing is still in use today.

From 1863 to 1869 Parkhurst was a female prison. Parkhurst has served as a male prison since this time and became one of the first Dispersal Prisons in 1968.

It remained a high security prison until the mid nineties when in was converted to its current role. Parkhurst now caters for long-term and life sentence category B prisoners and the remands from the Isle of Wight courts.

Jack the Ripper was amoung one of the past prisoners of Parkhurst!

So whats does the day involve?

Well firstly we are not allowed to wear any perfume incase the inmates smell us... Oh dear I do love my perfume!

We have already had our criminal record and security checks approved.

When we arrive we will hand over all of our worldly goods and in return be issued with a mandatory jump suit and have our mug shots taken (Classy!).

We will then be given a tour of the prison and proceed to be locked up in our cell (Lets hope the 2 shops didnt have a bad week on figures the week before as that a lot of time to kill!!!!).

The excitement will then continue with a gourmet lunch of prison food.....Mmmmmm.

So dig deep and help me on my way to raising £500 for the FHA... You may just want to donate for the pure satisfaction of me spending the day in prison.

Thank you

Steph
