Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So… it’s that time of year again where half of us decide to buy into the idea of this ‘New Year, New Me’ stuff and try as I might to resist it, I have decided to hop on the bandwagon this year!

If you know me well enough (or have known me long enough) you’ll know that I have what some may call an affinity for unhealthy food. Especially if it contains that good, good, sweet, dopamine-releasing stuff – sugar. I, like everyone else, am well aware of how too much of food saturated with sugar and fat does nothing positive for your health and general well-being. And yet so far I’ve been unable to come up with
approaches and strategies to overcome my unhealthy relationship with this food (I’ll save you having to read through what could be a dissertation length piece on what I’ve tried so far and why I’ve been unsuccessful).

After much thought, I realised that I haven’t tried the one thing that usually motivates me to do things – the pressure of knowing that other people are relying on me and keeping me accountable. So I have decided to use the new year as an opportunity to do something that will be of benefit to me whilst raising money for charity through sponsorship. For one year (1st January 2018 to 31st December 2018) I will be going without sweets, chocolate (including chocolate drinks), biscuits, cakes, pastries, desserts, ice cream, crisps, popcorn and food from fast food restaurants (think MacDonalds, KFC, etc).

If you are able/willing to, I would love it if you would sponsor me whilst I do this by donating to an excellent organisation called ‘Freedom from Fistula’. The organisation works in various countries throughout Africa providing free surgery to girls and women who develop obstetric fistulas as a consequence of complications during childbirth. What’s more, 100% of the donations they receive go directly to their projects as their administration costs are met by The Gloag Foundation.

The plan is that the knowledge that I am doing this for a good cause will keep me going whenever I’m tempted to give in to my cravings and this year will kick-start lifelong changes to my relationship with food. So please support me if you can!
