For almost 40 years we’ve harvested rainwater to support remote communities, originally in India now Ghana & Uganda. Our work improves health, reduces poverty, builds climate change resilience & frees women from water procurement. To date we’ve worked in 2,000+ villages helping 2.3 million people.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After a recent trip to India to learn about water security in the region of Rajasthan (which borders the Thar desert!), I have been compelled to raise awareness of the issue of water security that we all face.

Access to safe drinking water and sanitation is a human right yet water is becoming a more scarce resource due to climate change. Whilst we expect Governments to be doing all they can to secure basic human rights there is still much to be done to see water and sanitation for all.

Witnessing the work of organisations like Wells for India, showed me this charity has the right approach to getting water to people in Rajasthan: involving communities in reviving traditional sustainable rainwater harvesting systems and creating community insitutions to conserve their own resources and adapt water management and agriculture to the impacts of climate change; enabling women and children to spend less time collecting water and more time improving their livelihood and educational opportunties.(Seehttp://www.wellsforindia.org/ website for more information.)

I'll be carrying about 6 litres of water up Mount Snowdon in solidarity with the millions of women and children who walk for their water every day. I'm sure this will be a challenge so I'd like to thank you for your support and sponsorhip.
