Theodore’s story…
We were rushed to the Evelina when Theo was less than 24 hours old and had already been moved from two other hospitals where doctors were trying to figure out why they couldn’t stabilise him.
Once at the Evelina Theo was treated for a heart condition called Cardiac TAPVD, but was so poorly when he arrived we spent over 2 weeks in intensive and critical care living hour by hour while all the amazing nurse’s and doctors at the Evelina cared for him, and all we could do is stand by and watch while feeling helpless!
We ended up spending almost 7 weeks in the Evelina hospital, staying by his side day and night, just praying he would be strong enough for his much needed operation and recovery.
During this time Theo sadly suffered a seizure and following a CT scan and MRI’s we learnt that he’d also had a bleed on the brain and a stroke within in first 24 hours of life.
We wasn’t prepared for any of this and really struggled with processing everything while trying to be strong for Theo….but the care and support we received from the nurses and doctors at the Evelina were incredible, not only were they amazing at looking after Theo, but they were so kind and supportive to Matt and I as we navigated this situation, and quite simply, Theodore wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for them!
We don’t know what the future looks like for Theo yet, he has a long journey ahead of him and we still have regular trips to the Evelina for cardiology, neurology, and ophthalmology (as Theo also has cataracts in both eyes, nystagmus and Marcus gun syndrome) but the on going support from these teams is nothing short of incredible! And we do our best to remain positive for Theo and focus on all the amazing steps he’s taking no matter how small as we know they’re huge steps for him!
Which is why we’re taking part in The Remarkable Race, a fundraising walk supporting the incredible work of Evelina London Children’s Hospital.Every penny donated will help Evelina London continue to provide compassionate, trailblazing care for the 104,000 children and young people they treat each year, while also supporting the incredible team who dedicate themselves to caring for these families.
