Story

When my husband suffered a stroke at 34 we had no idea that was even a possibility. The latest research shows that people are having strokes at a younger age. Everyone needs to be aware of the signs.

The main symptoms of stroke can be remembered with the word F.A.S.T.:

  • Face – the face may have dropped on 1 side, the person may not be able to smile, or their mouth or eye may have dropped.
  • Arms – the person with suspected stroke may not be able to lift both arms and keep them there because of weakness or numbness in 1 arm.
  • Speech – their speech may be slurred or garbled, or the person may not be able to talk at all despite appearing to be awake; they may also have problems understanding what you're saying to them.
  • Time – it's time to dial 999 immediately if you see any of these signs or symptoms.

STROKE ASSOCIATION  When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.

My brother and I are not runners but want to give this race a good bash and raise awareness and funds for this charity. Thank you for your support!
