I'm swimming down the River Dart for 10km from Totnes to Dittisham on Saturday 14th September, with my good friend and colleague Richard Elliott, to raise money specifically for Surfers Not Street Children, an inspiring charitable project in Durban, South Africa.
Myself, Susie and our kids were able to visit the charity for a couple of weeks earlier in the year and then there was a Surfers Not Street Children UK tour in June and July this Summer, for which we were hosts. During the tour many of you will have met and heard the stories of Lucky, Andile, Sihle and Tom Hewitt and been moved by what they said about their experiences.
The project uses surfing to get and keep chidren off the streets and to tell others about the plight of street children globally. This is a chance to give the guys some support and to get behind the project.
More details about Surfers Not Street Children can be found at the Surfers Not Street Children FB page, or there are videos on You Tube with more information.
Currently we are trying to upgrade the house where the team are based, save for a vehicle, and fund raise for the next trip where a surfing project will be planted in another exisiting street children project.
We will match fund any donations made to increase the impact and total amount raised, so please give generously.
We also need your support to keep us swimming for the 3 or 4 hours it is going to take and to make it over the finish line!
