Story
SSJ is charity providing a mix of specialist supported-living services in Southampton, Portsmouth and across Hampshire. It supports people and families experiencing homelessness, problematic alcohol or substance use and mental health problems.

My own sense, as a trustee, is that SSJ is well run, highly regarded and effective in relieving poverty, sickness, hardship and distress. It does some unusual things, like running a specialist care home which accommodates people who have been homeless and could not otherwise be housed.
Years of cuts have made this increasingly difficult. For example, after promising (in writing) to raise rents in supported housing to ensure stability, the government has in fact cut them each year. At the same time, opportunities to relieve poverty associated with homelessness have grown, perhaps particularly among women.
