Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you will be aware I've lost both my Mum and my Dad to Dementia, I've seen what it does to people and the extra side effects that people just aren't aware of.

The things you do tend to see are the forgetfulness and confusion but what you don't see is the frustration, the distancing from others who feel awkward being around a dementia sufferer, my children didn't like seeing Nanny and Granddad Duffy as such as they were different, they acted strange.  I've got fond memories of taking my Dad the zoo, the pub and for meals not to mention Christmas at the care home.

I feel guilt in ways with regrets in not doing enough but how much is enough?? I know Dad had his regrets too, in a moment of clarity he apologised for things.

It's been tough and still not over as my brother has cerebral palsy and learning difficulties which is now to a point that he's struggling with cost of living etc, like many people, he's expressed he's really missing our parents badly.

I'm not after donations for myself or my brother but looking to raise money to better understand dementia and raise awareness of its impacts both on the individual and the people around them.

Dementia is getting worst and on the raise for some reason and stats are you probably know someone that suffers or will suffer from it at sometime in your life, I hope it's not someone too close!

My aim is to try and enjoy London which I got a place on my own merits but would love to raise some cash for Dementia UK.  It's true I enjoy running and will enjoy running London but don't underestimate running 26 miles and running it in under 3 hours it will be quite tough at the end, but yeah my goal will be to run under 3 hours which will be my fastest today and will be for a good cause pushing me.

Thanks for your time!  I'll try my best not to let you down and if you need to talk about dementia on a personal level I'm your man to point you in the right direction, as it's hard to get the information you need when you need it, it's a painful learning process.
