Story
For those that know me I'm sure the decision to take part in an Olympic length Triathlon has come as a bit of a surprise... To be fair I'm still getting over the shock myself (Will teach me not to agree to things on a Monday morning before I've had the chance to wake up!). Reactions have thus far ranged from scathing looks, raised eyebrows and comments such as "You? Running?! hahaha". Cheers guys!
Anyway here I am readying myself to complete a 1.5k sea swim followed by 40k bike ride and finishing with a 10k run in Brighton on Sunday September 16th 2018. I've decided to use this event as an excuse to actually do some good and give a bit back to the vibrant community in Brixton where I currently live.
Papas Park on Pulross Road is a wonderful little slice of paradise situated slap bang in the middle of Brixton which provides a safe space for numerous ages to play and relax. They have a cute café serving great coffee and cakes, a playground, community centre and basketball court frequented daily by many in the local area. Walking past every day on my way to and from the station always brings a smile to my face from the vibrant playground and abundant veg patches all maintained by a group of volunteers.
Last year the park faced closure after the council scrapped all funding. This would be a huge tragedy and loss to all current and future residents, especially the youngsters and so a great target for me to drum up a bit of awareness and hopefully some cold hard dollar.
I'd really appreciate your support whether in spirit, on the day with sharp sticks to urge me on to the finish line and if you are able please dig deep to help me hit my target and help ensure Papas lives on.
Much love,
Steve
