Not what I ever wanted to be writing but with great sadness Dad passed away on Friday 29th June. He never got the chance to try and get through his transplant, but he didnt ever give up and fought to the end. The money I have raised and will hopefully continue to raise will be going to a amazing charity to raise awareness for such a horrible illness.
Thinking of you always Dad and I know you will be supporting me always......
As many of you will know Dad was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia) in January this year. Around 2,000 adults are diagnosed with AML each year in the UK and often have no prior warning to the condition, with often very little time to try and fight the disease. After a number of extensive rounds of chemotherapy Dad is now going through a high risk stem cell and bone marrow transplant at the Royal Marsden. It’s very difficult to put into words the devastation cancer has on the individual, family and friends, however the positivity and support the various hospitals have given to Dad and us as a family has been staggering.
All I`m trying to do is raise a little money to support the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Charity who specialise in blood cancers. I understand that there are many good charities and we are all at times asked to dig deep, but any contribution will be greatly appreciated and will help me to push myself when im running out of steam during the three events I`m undertaking......................
2.3 mile open water swim in the River Thames (JULY)
70 mile bike ride (OCT)
9 mile run (OCT)
Thanks in advance
Stephen
