Please take a moment to read Charlie’s journey from the words of his mum, Jo my partner of almost 10 years and Charlie my stepson, who I love dearly. I am so proud of the amazing young man he has become it’s an honour to be able to undertake this challenge for him and Meningitis Now.
“At the age of 9 months Charlie our gorgeous boy contracted pneumococcal meningitis.
Easter weekend 2001 Charlie had to be put into a coma to try to stabilise his ever worsening and critical condition. Life as we knew it would never be the same again… we didn’t know if he would pull through, we didn’t know what the future would hold for him.
Our dreams and aspirations for him were held on a knife edge. We are so grateful for the care and support of the team at pendlebury hospital with their skill, expertise and a massive dose of strength from little Charlie he fought this horrific disease. Meningitis Trust provided lots of support, guidance and counselling to me personally during the time Charlie was in hospital it’s lovely that Stephen can take part in this event to raise awareness and funds to support help for more families.
Charlie is now 22 years, meningitis left him with an acquired brain injury which provides challenges for him every day, despite these challenges he has grown into a beautiful young man who inspires us every day”.
If you could spare a thought and a few quid to help remove meningitis from our world that would be appreciated, or continue to support families and individuals then Meningitis Now can continue its extraordinary work.
I am will be completing the 24 Peaks Trek which will take me to the top of some of the Lake District's highest peaks in one weekend.
I will be trekking for 12 hours each day, covering around 28 miles over the weekend – with around 12,500ft of total ascent, the 24 Peaks challenge is one of the UK’s most demanding adventures.
