We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.

Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

At Stephen George & Partners, we feel passionately that social responsibility should make a difference to us all, from the people who donate funds to those who receive them. This is why we embarked on Respect 2008+, an initiative that has challenged our own perceptions and reminded us of our responsibilities in a very practical and inspiring way.

Teaming up with Habitat for Humanity we are supporting their Orphans and Vulnerable Children initiative. We have pledged to raise funds to build 60 new homes over three years, housing 60 families.

Our aim is to send two teams of volunteers each year to assist in the building of new homes for the children. The first group went to Eshowe in South Africa in June 2008 and Steve, one of the team wrote of his experience:

"Fundamental to the core of the fabric of family life is the simple right to a decent home.  ... This simple homestead will provide security and shelter and lift out of the spiralling poverty trap, a small family of this planets most vulnerable people. In the fabric of its construction, each of us leaves behind a small but significant part of our heart and soul."

The 2nd team were there in October 2008 and regretably, due to the current economic climate, the 3rd team will not now be leaving until 2010. However, fundraising continues; you can find further information about the project and many of the fundraising events on our website http://www.stephengeorge-respect.co.uk/

This project is very close to all of us at Stephen George & Partners. Thank you very much for your support.
