Tour de Moat · 26 August 2016 ·

To mark Moat's 50th birthday, during the 2016/17 financial year we're raising £50,000 to be shared across five charities: Moat Foundation, Centrepoint, Porchlight, SATEDA and Children of Choba.

Story

STOP PRESS!! Vikki is now taking part too!!!!  We'll both be embarking on the 100 mile challenge; albeit not at the same speed!  We've combined forces and you can sponsor us both via this one JustGiving page.

With just two weeks until the main event, and after much consideration, I'm doing it!  A 100 mile bike ride from Dartford to Whitstable to Dartford.  It's going to be tough, really tough, really really tough, but it'll be worth it because it's all in aid of Moat's '50for50' fundraising campaign.  To celebrate turning 50 years old, the housing association that I work for is raising £50,000 for five very important charities.  My own fundraising will contribute to the overall totals.  I'll join a cohort of Moatees who will join me on the challenge.

As mentioned, there are five charities that we're raising for, but one is particularly close to my heart.  Children of Choba is a British registered charity based in Tanzania running an English medium primary and nursery school in a deeply impoverished part  the country.  The school has huge successes, and education is recognised as the key to breaking the poverty cycle.  The £10,000 being raised for them will make a phenomenal difference to the charity and to the children that it helps.

In addition, we're also raising money for:

- Moat Foundation: Moat's very own charity, helping young and disadvantaged people to improve life changes and employment opportunities.

- Centrepoint: The national homeless charity supporting young people aged 16 to 25.

- Porchlight: The Kent based charity providing support to homeless people and families.

- SATEDA (Swale Action To End Domestic Abuse): The Swale based charity providing direct access to support, advocacy and advice for victims of domestic abuse.

I know that people can be bombarded with requests for sponsorship.  I respect and understand those people that are 'fatigued' but if you can donate even a tiny amount I will love you forever!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
