Steph & Playtonic's Fund Raising for Future's New Gaming Corner · 30 November 2022

Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone, named by young people as ‘Future’, is a state-of-the-art facility for the borough’s young people aged 8 to 19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities. The Youth Zone give young people somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to talk to.

Story

Playtonic believes that every young person deserves access to a safe, warm space, to be listened too and have someone to talk too. We’re also huge gamers and feel access to video games is something all young people should have, and that young people will also become the next generation of our industry. We’d like to give young people more opportunities and support this wonderful charity by funding a new gaming space for their members.

We also really appreciate that Future is available for their members at a low-cost with warm balanced low-cost meal options, which in the current climate and considering the economic background of many of their members is invaluable.

Over 150 people access Future each session so this November Steph will be travelling 150km along with many other Playtonic staff organised activities to raise money for the following goals.

Our Goals:

> Supply 50+ games for Future

> Raising £1,500 for a new gaming TV

> Supplying 4 PS5 controllers

Our Fundraising activities:

> Steph will be walking/running/swimming 150km in November

> Playtonic will host a games donation box in our office if staff would like too contribute

Watch this space and our social channels during November for more Playtonic activities and events!

Any additional funds raised will be spent at the discretion of Future Youth Zone.

ABOUT FUTURE YOUTH ZONE

Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone, named by young people as
‘Future’, is a charity offering a safe and fun place for young people to
spend their leisure time, inspiring young people to live healthier, happier, more aspirational lives. Future gives young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.

Future is open 52 weeks a year, during evenings and weekends
when young people need them most. We have 20+ activities every session from boxing to beat boxing, cooking to climbing and nail art to fine art.

Check out the full range of activities  on offer at Future from sports and arts, to music, drama and employability workshops.

Future Youth Zone also provides and caters for young people
with a range of additional needs up to the age of 25.

Each year it costs £1.6 million to run the Youth Zone, and most of our budget is used to pay for Youth Workers who share their skills and passion with young people.

Potential is everywhere. In every home on every street, from affluent suburbs to inner-city estates. The difference is that some young people get every opportunity to explore their potential. Others don’t.

Barking & Dagenham is London’s most deprived borough.
Already living in a highly disadvantaged area, the effect of lockdown and the rise of living costs are having a catastrophic impact on many local young people.

It is still all too apparent that where you are born
determines where you get to. Despite repeated attempts by successive governments, the social divide is widening - it is our job to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to become the best version of themselves.

Because when we really invest in young people, we all benefit – from who they are now, everything they might become and achieve, and everyone they might touch and inspire. All they need is the chance to shine – an environment where they can be their best selves – and you just watch them go.

Youth Zones are a message to young people that someone really believes in them and has invested in their future.
