Our main aims are to provide help and support for people with a learning disability living in West Dorset and to also offer support to their families, dependants and carers. Support can include financial assistance to purchase specialist equipment needed for the home or to help with transport to social activity groups. We have supported community projects such as workshops at Bridport Arts Centre to individuals who are setting up their own home and need to buy equipment. We also fund holidays and special days out allowing families to make special memories together. We having a thriving charity shop in Bridport which helps raise funds for people with learning disabilities living in our local area and 100% of our profits are used to support people and projects in West Dorset. The National Federation of Gateway Clubs is a leisure organisation for people with a learning disability run by Mencap. In Bridport the club is organised and run by volunteers under the West Dorset Mencap committee. The Gateway Club meets fortnightly in Bridport WI Hall and offers a fun and varied programme of activities including discos, dance and singing workshops.
