Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On July the 5th 2014 We will take part in La Marmotte 2014. The famous 174km road cycle race, featuring 5,000m of height gain along with 7000 other cyclists, beginning in Bourg d'Oisans finishing in Alpe d'Huez.

We will be raising money for the Cycle Response Unit in Cardiff. The Welsh Ambulance Service teamed up with St John Cymru Wales to form the Cycle Response Unit (CRU) back in March 2013. The CRU provide emergency support in Cardiff's city centre during busy periods such as major rugby events and festivals, as well as every Saturday.

The team is made up entirely of volunteers who give up their own time to attend 999 calls within the city centre on specially modified mountain bikes. Each bike is equipped with a defibrillator, resuscitation kit plus first aid essentials. They receive no funding other than through their own efforts. The monies raised are used to purchase essential equipment  and training kit to allow them to continue to provide life saving treatment on the streets of Cardiff. The main advantage of this cycle scheme is that the cyclists are able to weave their way through traffic and pedestrians to get to a patients side quickly, even if they're in an arcade or large department store.

Since this scheme has been up and running the team have successfully resuscitated two members of the public following cardiac arrest. So as you can see, they offer an excellent service.

Your donations will be gratefully received.
