Steve Freegard is raising money for Little Princess Trust

Steve's Hair Donation · 6 September 2021

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions. The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

Story

I'm not someone that can run a marathon, half-marathon or 10k, cycle around the UK, jump out of a plane or climb a mountain - I'm lazy!

But due to my laziness (and partly because of lock-down), my hair has never been longer than it is now and I've had lots of people tell me how nice it is.

But lots of people (including my wife and children) have also been telling me to get it cut as it's now too long and I'll admit that it's starting to get a little bit out of hand, requiring daily detangling and a bit more maintenance than I can be bothered with (did I mention that I'm lazy?!).

I lost my Dad to cancer many years ago and he hid his condition from everyone except for my Mum for years before he finally told me and my brother.  He never wanted anyone to know, so he absolutely hated losing his hair to chemotherapy because it told everyone he had cancer, and I guess it was a reminder to him every time he looked in the mirror.

So, I've decided to get my hair cut and to donate it to the Little Princess Trust, so it can benefit a brave child who is battling cancer or another condition and help restore their confidence and identity.

I've got around 18 inches of hair now and I'll be donating all of it regardless as to how much I raise - BUT if I reach of exceed my target of £1000, I'll have my head shaved completely too!

The Little Princess Trust provides free, real hair wigs and funds research into childhood cancer.  You can find out more at www.littleprincesses.org.uk.

The Trust relies solely on the efforts of enthusiastic community fundraisers, they receive no formal funding.  So please help to raise money for them so that they can help more families.
