Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am now running the  Vitual Vitality London 10k at the end of October 2020 in memory of my mum to raise funds for the Pilgrims Hospices in East Kent.

For those that don't know both my Mum passed away in  March 2019 and my Dad passed in September 1993 both at the time using the fantastic facilities and care provided by the staff in the Pilgrims Hospice at  Thanet. The service this organisation provides is second to none and it felt only right to commemorate the anniversary of my Mum's passing by trying to raise as much funds for this organisation as I can. I  therefore ran my first and maybe only half marathon raising funds for the Pilgrims Hospice. The last time I ran anywhere as far as this was in school cross country 47 years ago. I completed that in 2.11.41 and have now registered for the Vitual Vitality London 10K.

Here are some facts and figures from the Pilgrims Hospice  "We provide specialist care to patients and families across east Kent. Our vision is of a community where people with a life-limiting illness are supported and empowered, together with their family and friends, to live well in mind and body, and make the most of the time they have. We have proudly provided skilled and compassionate care, completely free of charge, to the community of east Kent for over thirty years.

Approximately 30% of people who die in east Kent are cared for by us. We are now caring for more than 2,400 people each year – a figure that is set to climb in the years ahead as people live longer and with more complex conditions. This care is given in our three inpatient units in Canterbury, Thanet and Ashford, our therapy centres or in patients’ own homes. We also provide a 24/7 telephone support service to patients and carers and offer bereavement support.

Here are some examples of what money raised can pay for  -

£350 could pay for over 17 hours of nursing care for someone living with a life-limiting illness; making them comfortable, bringing pain under control and enabling them to live well until the end of life.

£10 could pay for a patient’s meals for a day,

£20 could pay for an hour of nursing care,

£35 could pay for therapy sessions for patients and carers,

while £50 could pay for essential nursing supplies.
