Founded in 1856 and funded entirely by voluntary donations, The Mission to Seafarers offers emergency assistance and support to crews around the world. Whether victims of piracy or those shipwrecked or stranded, we’re there for the globe’s merchant seafarers of all ranks, nationalities and beliefs.

Story

Me and my family are fundraising in memory of Steve Matthews (Dad). He dedicated much of his time to public service and to supporting good causes and, for that reason, we have chosen to request donations to charity in lieu of flowers. We have selected two charities that were important to him:

1) The Mission to Seafarers - Dad started his career in the Merchant Navy, travelling the world as an oil tanker Captain, before moving on to a successful career in maritime journalism. He was a supporter of the Mission throughout that long career, and we can think of no more fitting cause.

2) Mencap - Dad spent many years as Chairman of our local branch of Mencap and was a keen supporter of their vital work advocating for people with a learning disability

This page is for The Mission to Seafarers. We're hoping to raise a broadly equal amount for each charity as they were both important to him, but any donation you can give will be gratefully received.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
