Steve's Longest Day for Weldmar Hospicecare

My Longest Day · 21 June 2022
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The 21st of June is the longest day and I am planning to cycle my longest ride. Last September I rode 252 km/156 miles. This year I plan to ride a minimum of 300 km/186 miles. Maybe even get to 350km/217 Miles or more if daylight and legs allow.
The objective is to cycle from sunrise to sunset, leaving home at 4:46AM and getting back at 9:22PM. That is just over sixteen and a half hours. I might find myself struggling to get home before dark, or be back in Esher at 7PM and need to ride around for a few more hours till sunset. The plan is to ride from Esher towards Reading and then onto Avebury just south of Swindon. Avebury has a stone circle similar to Stonehenge, so it seems apt to head here on the Summer Solstice. From here it is back to Esher via Hungerford and Aldershot. I am pretty sure you will find me at the Wheatsheaf with a pint at the end of this day...
This is the route that I am planning :

I am doing this to raise essential funds for Weldmar Hospicecare. My father-in-law was looked after at the Hospice in his final days and I cannot emphasise how invaluable the care that they gave was. They have an amazing team that do a very difficult job at what is a difficult time for many families.
Weldmar Hospicecare needs to raise £18,000 a day to continue the specialist end of life care they provide in Dorset, both in the comfort of patient's own homes and at the IPU in Dorchester. 21% of hospice costs are met by the NHS, the rest comes from the generosity of the local community.
