Story

Hello and welcome to my End-To-End JustGiving webpage, dedicated to raising money for and promoting awareness of the Encephalitis Society

I first became aware of Encephalitis when a very close friend of mine, James, became extremely ill with this life threatening brain illness. This was back in 2002 and in the ensuing years the kind and knowledgeable people of the Encephalitis Society have been incredibly supportive to James and his family... so to them I am truely grateful.

And so it was, some 7 years later when James offered me the opportunity to join him and another friend, Dave, on a challenging 6-day charity trek in the Transylvanian Alps in August 2010, that I jumped at the chance, and took it upon myself to raise some of the sponsorship monies required by doing a solo, unsupported End to End bike ride...

So my journey begins in the far northeast of Scotland, at John O’Groats on 10th September ’09, and takes me south and west to Lands End in Penzance to rest my weary legs (and other parts) some 2 weeks and 900+ miles later! I am in no doubt that it will be physically and mentally challenging, with some 'diffficult' hill climbs and changeable weather being just some of the obstacles and inconveniences awaiting me. However, I am also delighted to be able to offer my support to the Encephalitis Society for helping one of my closest friends through his hardest times and I'm just looking forward to getting going now!! I do hope you will be able to support me and the Encephalitis Society by making even a small donation, whatever you can really will be a great help!!

As well as my JOG-LE bike rideJames, Dave and I, along with the generous assistance of friends, family and local businesses in the coming months running up to Trek Transylvania, are also organising many other charity events including family fun days, quiz nights, themed parties and ghost hunts at Guy's Cliffe House.
