Mount Kilimanjaro Climb · 25 September 2011
I was diagnosed with a condition called Stargardts Macular Dystrophy 7 years ago. This is a form of dry macular degeneration which leads to gradual loss of central vision. I am currently registered as visually impaired. There are currently no treatments or cure for this condition.
When i was diagnosed with the condition i found it very difficult to cope and felt very down about the whole thing. I found it very difficult to talk about my condition.
The macular disease society has helped me to come to terms with my sight loss and has put me in touch with people of a similar age who have the same or similar conditions. The charity also invests money into research to try to find a cure for this condition.
To try to raise money for the charity my husband Steve and I have decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in September 2011. I'm not entirely sure what i am letting myself in for. I would not exactly describe myself as the athletic type but neverthless i will try my best to make it to the summit and lets face it, if i can make the summit then anything is possible!
Steve and I are self funding the Mount Kilimanjaro climb so all sponsorship money raised will be donated to the Macular Disease Society.
