Well, we did it!!
Thanks to Jenny Finch who donated £100 (when I entered it it ended up in my name!!!) and to Diane and Bill Ball who donated £50 (Diane spent some of her youth living at Monkey Bay and also used to swim to the Chauncy Maples!!!).
Chay with Steve Letch and the Morris Traveller (Mavis) had a few exciting moments. Whilst travelling up the Fosse way his windscreen broke, so he had to drive to a garage in Emley with no protection from the rain and at times sleet. They were not particularly happy, although us bikers did see the funny side!! On the trip back from John O'Groats (14hrs) he managed to lose the brakes in the mountains of Scotland, which caused some concern as they were particularly useful on the downhill bits. They did manage to effect a repair on the roadside which got them home.
As for the Harley's, they never missed a beat although my 82 Tourglide Classic did use a lot of oil. For the bikers out there my all time favourite roads were the A7 through the Scottish Borders and the A9/A99 north of Inverness. The most difficult part of the journey was the 12hrs it took to ride from John O'Groats back home.
