Story
Hello everyone!
Thank you for taking the time to visiting my fundraising page. Read about what I'm doing and what for below and please, please sponsor me! Please let others know about what I'm doing as well, as I need all the support I can get!
THE EVENT
In June I will be taking part in the 5 Peak Challenge which involves climbing 5 of Britain's highest mountains in 72 hours...... a tall order! (sorry!). The event is run by Loughborough Students Union as part of the RAG initiative to raise money for charity. In the order they will be climbed, the mountains are..... Ben Nevis in Scotland (1,343 m/4,406 ft), Helvellyn in the Lake District (950 m /3,117 ft), Scafell Pike also in the Lake district (978 m / 3,209 ft), Snowdon in Wales (1085 m / 3,560 ft) and finally onto Cadair Idris (or sometimes called Cader Idris) also in Wales (892 m /2,927 ft). Apparently there can be snow on some of them even in the summer, either way I'll be taking my coat if I'm going to Scotland. There will be a coach to escort us to the foot of each mountain, stragglers will be left behind. Sleeping consists of closing your eyes on the coach between mountains. The clock starts when set off at the foot of Ben Nevis and stops when we get to the bottom of Cadair Idris.
THE CAUSE
My target is to raise £250 for Debra (hopefully more). For those of you who haven't heard of Debra, it's a charity that specifically raises money to help sufferers of a skin disease known as Epidermolysis Bullosa (the EB in debra). It is estimated that 5,000 people in the UK suffer from this rare disease, which to date, has no effective treatment or cure. EB is genetically inherited and therefore mostly affects children from birth. In the most extreme cases EB is fatal but more often requires constant care where bandages need to be replaced up to 4 or 5 times a day. Money is used to fund research for treatment and an effective cure and also helps to fund specialist care workers for suffers. Please do have a look at the website for more info ( http://www.debra.org.uk/ ).
Donating through justgiving.com is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: DebRA will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. However if you would rather do it the conventional way please let me know and you can write on my sponsorship form.
I hope you'll see my cause is worth while and my task is challenging enough to warrant you forking out your hard earned cash. I am open to suggestions about how to make it more interesting if it would encourage you to sponsor me!
Thanks very much! and remember to pass on to everyone!
Steve
