Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've setup the page to raise money for the Himalayan trust - a charity dedicated to helping the mountain people of Nepal.
We all know about the devastating earthquake in Nepal & many of you also know that as a mountaineer I'm connected with the Sherpa community.
I learned the day after the quake that 2 sherpas whom I knew had been killed at Everest BC by the avalanche.
Pasang Temba was a cook from the village of pangboche.
Kumar was from further down the valley & was a climbing Sherpa
Both of the sherpas I knew were family men - Pasangs house was also destroyed in the quake.
Their stories are amongst many like them
The mountain people are tough, resilient and resourceful, however the magnitude of the disaster is hard to comprehend.
The annual income of the survivors has in addition been almost entirely destroyed as the climbing season is effectively over and westerners are quickly exiting the region.
I was looking forward to seeing them again later in the year when I plan to return to the region.
