Story
Please sponsor me and Dad as we take on the legendary Allendale Challenge together on 4th April 2020. Two great local causes will benefit from our fundraising;
North Tyne Mountain Rescue Team organise this event. All entry fees are used to help fund their fantastic rescue work.
Tyne Amateur Rowing Club, founded in 1852, is one of the oldest sporting clubs in England. It is a registered charity with a growing junior section run entirely by volunteer coaches and parents. Children from the age of 11 years attend the club to learn the basics of rowing before going on to compete in junior race meetings where they proudly represent our region across the length and breadth of the country. Two of our junior members are current GB indoor champions, another is a GB record holder and one was the fastest 15 year old in the recent 2020 World Indoor Finals in Paris. Jessie is very proud to be Junior Squad Captain this season.
Jessie & Steve will be tackling the legendary Allendale Challenge in an effort to raise funds to pay for repairs and upgrades to our ageing fleet of boats.
The 26 mile walking route is one of the toughest on the UK walking circuit. Taking an anti-clockwise loop from Allendale Town, the route takes in Hard Rigg, Black Hill, Kilhope Law before returning to the town via Spartylea, The Drag and Ladlewell. The middle section of the walk brings a notorious, energy-sapping 4 mile stretch of peat bog, the finest in the North Pennines. Plenty of ‘muck and clarts’ to wash off later !!
