Sierra Leone saw one third of its population displaced and tens of thousands killed during the civil war of the 1990's. Conflict ended in 2002 but the destruction of many schools, hospitals and roads during the conflict has left the country as one of the poorest in the world ten years on.

My aim here is to raise £75,000 to help build a school in Kambia, North-East of the country's capital Freetown.The new school will consist of :-

- 6 classroom block (one for each year group)

- Office (for headteacher) & storeroom for new school equipment

- A rehabilitated 3 classroom block

- 3 cubicles + separate male/female facilities 

- Water well with hand pump

This will initially help improve the lives of 300 children, with the hope of it rising to 400 over subsequent years. Statistics show the benefit an education can have on the african girls with there potentially being an increase in their eventual wages by 10% - 20% for every year of schooling they recieve. To make such a difference to so many poverty struck lives in Sierra Leone is something i hold very close to my heart especially being my grandad's homeland where he was born and bred. Therefore i am ever so thankful to Action Aid for making this dream a reality, and off course the support of you at home. Every donation big or small is truly appreciated and will go a long way in improving the rebirth of Sierra Leone.

My hope is to have raised the money by May 1st which will allow the builders to begin their six month project. Depending on time off this summer I will be heading out there some time in June to get hands on with the building, talk with the kids and see exactly how the money you and I have invested is changing the country for the better.
