Story

This year my challenge for charity fund-raising is a series of events with a loose connection to Stephenson’s Rocket and other railway things.  The 3,2,1 refers to 3 Marathons, 2 Half-Marathons and a 10k.

With Stephenson's Rocket first running between Manchester and Liverpool in 1829, then this sets the scene for the first 3 events: Manchester Marathon on April 7th, Manchester 10k on May 19, Liverpool Marathon on May 26.

The Macclesfield Half-Marathon is a local event and the route goes part the East Cheshire Hospice, so there will be many more fund-raisers for the hospice on Sept 22.  I have also entered the Bollington 10k, which goes along the old railway line, but travel plans may mean this is not possible.

George Stephenson was born and raised on the banks of the River Tyne, so this sets the scene for 2 more events in the North East. The iconic and World's Biggest  - The Great North Run Half-Marathon on Sept 8th.  Then the final run of this series is the Kielder Marathon on Oct 13, known for its breathtaking scenery (and hills) on the route around Kielder Water.  This will be the toughest of the 3 marathons. Just think of it as 8 1/2 hilly parkruns!

Well that is it for my 2019 challenge.  About 111 miles, or if you prefer 178 km, in total.  Adding in the training runs runs will take the total distance to well over 500 miles this year!  I will put in race reports as we go through the year, along with photos of the events if I am able to stand and smile!
