Story

St Giles’ lofty spire, visible for so many miles around, is in serious trouble due to the effects of 150 years of North Herefordshire weather. Plans are being made to meet this crisis and ensure the future of this remarkable building. Beyond the much-needed remedial work, we have an opportunity to
create a wider vision for the building’s on-going use, both as a place of spiritual renewal and for other community uses.

Plans are being formed to add catering and toilet facilities
and to relocate the organ to the back (West) of the building, opening the founder’s side chapel for separate use as an easily heated meeting room, or perhaps even a recording facility to make use of the church’s excellent acoustics. Meanwhile interactive heritage and history displays can help to tell
the story of the building and surrounding area.

Downton church is a much-loved local landmark that will
disappear unless we can raise the money needed to save it. Please donate to help us to preserve this beautiful Victorian church as a place of worship, an important community space, an architectural gem, and a unique concert venue with
extraordinary acoustics.
