Family Sports Day

Family Sports Day Fun · 14 May 2020
Homelessness and addiction is difficult all year round however during lockdown it has been even more challenging with the reduction or closure of support and/ or food services.
My children and I know a few individuals who clearly have internal struggles near school and in town. Those people have relied on your friendly face to offer a smile and perhaps some spare change, these little acts of kindness may seem small to us but are huge to the person receiving them.
Prior to lockdown STH offered wonderful support to service users, serving on average 150 meals each week. With the reduction and closure of other services STH have increased their food service from 2 days each week to an amazing 7 days. Their wonderful volunteers are now serving over 600 meals each week.
STH also offer much needed emotional support. The charity is providing a limited number of Smart phones to allow the service users to engage with recovery meetings via online video calls. They are also distributing basic phones for service users to access telephone support from STH and other services.
If STH come across a service user who is sleeping rough, they will pay for temporary accommodation until they can present and secure more permanent accommodation from other services.
We are all struggling right now, the feeling of isolation can be overwhelming however we are fortunate to return to a warm bed each night with food in the fridge.
With summer approaching we thought it would be a great idea to have a family sports day to encourage us all to have fun whilst raising money to offer some hope to the homeless.
We would love for you to join us
