Angela and Jack's The Surrey Three Peaks Challenge

The Surrey Three Peaks Challenge · 4 April 2015
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Jack and I are aiming to walk 26 miles on April 4th 2015. We will be walking up and down the three steepest hills in Surrey - Holmbury Hill, Leith Hill and Box Hill.
We are raising money for The Stickler Diagnostic Clinic that is based at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. The clinic does not have charitable status which is why we are raising funds via ACT (Addenbrookes Charitable Trust) but the hospital have assured me that any funds that we raise will go directly to the clinic.
Why are we raising funds for the clinic?
Stickler Syndrome is a relatively rare genetic condition that affects members of my family. It can affect the eyesight - causing cataracts and detached retinas, the hearing, the joints and often causes cleft palates.
Recently one of my daughters underwent cataract surgery at the hospital under the supervision of Martin Snead. She had cataracts on both eyes caused by the syndrome and her eyesight was very limited. She was finding life increasingly difficult, especially as she has 4 young children to look after.
The operations were successful and my daughter now has better vision than she had when she was born. She is even considering learning to drive which would be truly fantastic and life-changing for her and her family.
The Stickler Diagnostic Clinic will continue to play a part in the lives of my daughters and their families. Any grandchildren will be able to be screened to see if they carry the gene and preventative treatments will be offered such as laser eye surgery to prevent detached retinas which can, if left untreated, cause blindness.
We hope to raise funds for the clinic to support the wonderful work that they do and to enable them to carry on with their research into Stickler Syndrome which, I know from my own experience, can turn your life upside down.
