Story

In 2011 I suffered a missed 4th degree tear, resulting in a recto-vaginal fistula and permanent stoma. It was a very traumatic experience which took me a long time to recover from but I have since gone on to do many adventurous things, and I want to prove that life isn't over after a traumatic birth. My blog and website, Stoma Chameleon, promotes the positive side of life with a stoma, and is intended to inspire other women who have suffered.

Open water swimming has given me so many mental health benefits so by doing this challenge, throughout the worse of the British weather, I want to go out of my comfort zone to raise awareness of the BTA and my positivity blog.

About the charity

The Birth Trauma Association supports families affected by traumatic childbirth. We also campaign to raise awareness of birth trauma and improve training of health professionals, as well as lobbying policymakers to improve care during and after childbirth.
