The St. Philip's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a charity fundraising committee run by parents and carers of children in the school and some of the staff. We run social and fundraising events to help raise money for some of the little extras that make the children's learning more fun. In the last couple of years our projects have included wall bars and Nativity costumes, a drumming workshop and a visit by an author, laptops and library books! Our main focus for this academic year is raising money to support the development of outdoor areas at the school. By coming together as a community of parents and friends we can make a real difference to our school. If you feel able to support the school by making a donation – however large or small – it will be put to very good use. If you would prefer to give your time and energy instead, please do speak to one of the PTA committee about how you can help. New ideas are always welcome!

Story

We are a team of parents united in wanting to raise some funds to help the children at our local school. We've all been training hard, pounding the pavements and plodding the trails around Cambridge in preparation for running 13.1 miles through the city on 17 October.

The PTA are working with the school on plans to improve its outdoor areas, including creating a quiet space in the playground for children to read or simply relax in, and introducing shaded areas for protection from the sun.

These sorts of changes will have a long term impact. Over 300 children use the playground every school day, and we want it to cater for every child, whether they want to run around or rest and recharge. Think about it like this: if running around is for health, then a quiet space to rest and recharge is for wellbeing. Both health and wellbeing are really important to all our lives - and that's what this outdoor improvement project is all about.

Along with many other schools around the country, Cambridgeshire schools are facing a funding crisis, and the sort of money required to make significant improvements to the outdoor environment at St Philip's simply won’t come from statutory funding. So, if you can spare just a few pounds to support our local school, and this brilliant project, it would really help us to know that all this training is going to make a difference.

Your donation will help us keep going in the long and more lonely parts of the course, and if you see any of us out training around Romsey (or further afield), please say hello!
