We thought our marriage, and the coming together of families, was a fitting time to raise money for a charity that means so much to Laura's.

The Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund does some fantastic work in the North East to support those who suffer from this particular type of lung cancer, which is caused by exposure to asbestos. 

Laura's stepdad, Gordon, was diagnosed in 2012. It's suspected he either contracted the disease as a shipyard apprentice or when he later started a lengthy career with the fire service.

Gordon has had two rounds of gruelling chemotherapy since his diagnosis,  the second of which he was determined to get through well in advance of the wedding so he could be on top form to walk Laura down the aisle. 

For this, all of his help with organising the wedding (he makes an excellent list!) and everything else he has done to support us over recent years (we could make a bigger one!), we will always be grateful.
