Keta's Journey started on 23 July 2019 when Hebe, Violet, Kevin, Neil and Mat Morgan walked from Hartlepool (Keta's home town) via Oxford (where Keta & Kevin met at university) and Battersea (where girls were born) to Godalming (home) - 352 miles in 15 days! It was the most incredibly tough but fantastic and emotional journey supported by a huge number of friends, family and strangers who joined the walk - simply amazing!
Our family has been severely impacted by this terrible disease with Keta (our mum/wife/sister-in-law) having been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2014. Sadly, on 27 January 2019 we lost Keta. She was more than ready to go, controlled the inevitable, and retained her humour to the end. She was and is a legend, adored by us all.
We are determined that Keta's courageous and smiling 5 year fight against this awful disease helps others.
We participate regularly in a number of events to raise money for MND research (still to find the cause, let alone a cure) and to support other families experiencing the same.
We would be extremely grateful for any fundraising support. Many thanks. Hebe, Violet, Kevin & Neil
In 2015, Kevin and Neil completed the overnight 100km Thames Path Challenge Walk in 27hrs and Hebe and Violet completed the Richmond Park 10km Christmas Run in an amazing 51mins!
In 2016, Hebe participated in the Colour Obstacle Rush over 5km with her school friends; Kevin completed the 3 Peaks Challenge (to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours); we hosted a fundraising netball tournament with many of Keta's ex team mates from her netball career coming out of (early!) retirement to support the cause; and Kevin completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon.
In 2017, Violet's school year took part in a sponsored fitness session kindly hosted by Turnfit Studio; Neil completed the London Marathon in 4hrs 39mins; the second Munstead Netball Challenge was a great success with Hebe's year group winning the trophy for the second year in a row; and Keta completed the brilliantly bizarre Marathon du Medoc with the support of 16 pushers (and 8 drinking spectators) - covering the beautiful 26 mile course, enjoying 20-odd chateau wine stops en route, all in fancy dress with 8,500 other party-goers was a truly unique experience! On the same day, Hebe and friends waded through rivers and a huge amount of mud to complete the Back To The Trenches challenge.
In 2018, unfortunately, owing to Keta's deteriorating health our planned fundraising efforts had to be put on hold with the third Munstead Netball Challenge in particular having to be cancelled at short notice. However, on 15 September, Neil & Captain Morgan led a team of six over the border to successfully tackle the 15 peaks of Wales - an almighty challenge which culminated in an ascent of Snowdon in thick cloud and gale force winds more reminiscent of Everest! Fantastic effort guys, well done.
The third playing of the Munstead Netball Challenge took place on 22 June 2019 with 10 teams doing battle in glorious sunshine. Violet's U15 team won the silverware with some ease, whilst everyone else fought hard for the minor places in an increasingly competitive field. In July/August 2019, the most monumental physical and mental effort ensured Hebe, Violet, Kevin, Neil & Mat completed Keta's Journey, with the support of many; you know who you are, huge thanks.
Watch this space, for the next fundraising challenge.....
