Action for Stammering Children is the UK charity for children and young people who stammer, their families, and the communities who support them. We’re here to make sure that every child who stammers has the support, respect and confidence to live the life they want to lead.

Story

What are we doing?

We have signed up to learn to dance, 'Strictly' style, and then perform the dance in front of Ed Balls and a panel of celebrity judges at the charity’s gala fundraiser event on 17th October 2019.

Think latin, ballroom, salsa and anything else you might see on the BBC's Strictly. We have committed to around 22 hours of professional dance coaching over the next 8 weeks so that we can hopefully (fingers crossed!) deliver a performance at the gala ball that even Darcey Bussell would give top marks.....

Why are we doing this?!

We have taken on this challenge to raise money for Action for Stammering Children (ASC). Nick is all too familiar with the challenges having a stammer can present to young people and transition to the world of work.

ASC is a UK charity which aims to ensure that every child and young person across the UK who stammers has access to effective services and support to help them meet the challenges they face.

Latest research suggests that up to 8% of children will stammer at some point, and approximately 1% continue to stammer into adulthood. In the UK that means that 1.5 million children will experience
stammering as they are growing up.

Action for Stammering Children is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. Since it was founded, ASC has supported 88,000 children and young people who stammer.

How your money will help

£50 will contribute towards a child's therapy assessment.

£100 will help pay for the training of a Speech and Language Therapist.

£200 will contribute towards therapy for someone less fortunate.

£500 will help cover the cost of a child's participation in a life-changing residential therapy course.

£1000 will pay for advanced technology  to provide the best treatment for children and young people who stammer.

We want to raise as much money as we can for ASC so any donation you are able to make is very much appreciated. ASC will be selling tickets to the gala ball on Thursday 17 October 2019 closer to the time.
