Strides for Stroke Recovery · 17 April 2022
On 23rd October we received the devastating news that our usually active Dad (Grandad) had suffered a Stroke at his home in Melton Mowbray and was being rushed into Leicester Royal Infirmary, then on 20th December our Mum (Grandma) also had a Stroke which came as a major shock to the family just as we were looking forward to Christmas.
They both encountered different symptoms, Dad still experiences numbness down his left hand side, whilst Mum has to tolerate short-term memory loss and impaired vision.
Both of our parents are truly grateful and admirable of the amazing care provided by the therapists of the Stroke Team at Early Supported Discharge Service (ESDS), which they say was without doubt very beneficial in helping them start on their long road to recovery.
Whilst receiving support it became apparent that there is a shortage of the equipment needed to lend to patients to gradually improve their dexterity by engaging in therapeutic activities at home.
We would like to show our sincere gratitude to these magnificent people providing care to our parents by raising funds which will enable them to buy new additional equipment to facilitate treatment for more patients for longer periods of time.
Our challenge is to run from Leicester Royal Infirmary to our parents house in Melton Mowbray on Easter Sunday, which is a distance of 20 miles - training is well underway! This replicates the journey taken by the ambulance following the emergency calls on the days of the two upsetting events, albeit in the opposite direction to signify their safe return home.
Thank you for reading our story and we are very appreciate of your generous contribution to help people recovering from Strokes.
Best wishes
