Story
Dan was the type of man you only meet once in a life time.
Kind, considerate and selfless beyond belief. In the gym, he would offer to put your gym equipment away.
He would coach you with movements that you are struggling with.
If you gave him the chance he would complete the workout for you. He was just that type of bloke!
He would often give up his free weekends and evenings after long night shifts to do some DIY in the gym or just help out.
He was a true gentleman.
There was another side of Dan that many didn't see, as he wouldn’t want to burden you with his trouble.
Plagued and tormented by addiction, he fought hard to control most of his life. 10 years sober, Fitness had become a tool for him to fight these beasts but ultimately they were too strong for him to battle.
He fought bravely and never showed weakness.
After Dan ended his own life on Friday the 16th March, I feel we have a duty to help people who are in need.
A friend, a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on when times are hard. Although Dan had all of these, it still wasn't enough.
We will never be able to replace the hole Dan has left in our lives and our gym community; we wouldn't want to. We only want to raise awareness of this problem and let people know they have a place to reside at STRONG101.
Give what you can, your money may help someone who's on the brink. More importantly, be kind, be supportive and be strong by talking to others.
