Story

Last year, Matthew and I suffered our third miscarriage in two years. Reeling and shocked, and finding it very difficult to express the grief and pain we were feeling, we looked for some easy ways to distract ourselves. That's when we discovered the TV series Nashville.

But Nashville is more than just a TV show. If you know it, you'll know that it's the music which makes it special - music often takes the place of dialogue between characters. I suppose for me especially, that music became a way for me to have a dialogue with my own pain.

Through Nashville, I discovered a whole new genre of music and a whole new group of performers and songwriters. I discovered that the man behind my favourite character, Deacon Claybourne - aka Charles (Chip) Esten - was releasing a new song every single Friday.

As I grappled with the aftermath of our three miscarriages, those records helped to carry me through. I was struggling to look forwards to our future, but I could at least look forward to Friday and a new Chip Esten song:

'it might be a song you sing...it might be a long walk or a phone call from a long lost friend...you just do what you gotta do, to get you though the blue'

("Through the Blue", by Charles Esten)

So, on the morning of Saturday 17 June - the day we'll go with friends to Manchester to see the Nashville cast perform in concert - I'm going to run the length of my #EverySingleFriday playlist (currently 2 hours, but it keeps getting longer as Chip keeps adding a new song each week!).

Many of my wonderful friends and family have already agreed to join me in completing this special distance. Together we'll celebrate what Chip's music has done for me, raise funds for the wonderful Miscarriage Association and raise awareness of the devastation of pregnancy loss.

Anyone is welcome to join us on our run in the countryside near Harewood House in Yorkshire. Please get in touch via Twitter (@vickytreherne) if you'd like more details. Or if you can't be with us, please join in from afar! Run or walk your favourite playlist and take a picture then tweet it using #StrutYourSongs

Donations to Strut your Songs will specifically support the charity's two
current development priorities:

1. Developing more focused support for anyone pregnant after loss

"We know that being pregnant after a previous loss or losses can be a very anxious time.  We plan to improve our existing support and information, developing new online and print resources that are shaped by what people tell us they need and by research into managing anxiety.  We'll be investing in research, writing, design and technology for this project."

2. Increasing uptake of the Miscarriage Association's e-learning resources for health professionals

"Our new resources are receiving excellent feedback, but we need to
accelerate take-up so we can inform, educate and support health
professionals in providing good care. We'll be investing in aligning our
resources with current professional accreditation and revalidation systems to add value to them for health professionals."
