I joined Emmaus Village Carlton in October 2013 after a very traumatic year. I knew little of the work that they do world and nationwide and had only previously visited as a customer.

There are currently 26 Emmaus sites in the UK alone - taking in homeless people who have been made that way through a range of issues (some of the stories are quite heart-rending). They provide food, warmth, shelter and work through the resale of donated goods. Helping to restore dignity and self-respect back to the vulnerable.

Those of you that know me are aware that I usually run for my daughters charity, the Down's Syndrome Association. However after the last 6 months, Emmaus has actually helped ME out when I was at my lowest ebb and so I felt it right to show my thanks by running my first marathon (gulp!).
