Story
The Deaflympics, which began in 1924, are the second oldest international multi-sports event in the world. Just as in last year's Olympics, golf will be a medal sport for the first time. Our players, Paul Waring and Steven Cafferty are aiming to be the first two British golfers to bring home Deaflympic medals.
20 year-old Paul Waring from Felixstowe England, was runner up at the 2016 World Championships and is the current European champion.
Steven Cafferty, 27, from Glasgow Scotland, placed 4th at the World Championships and 5th at the European Championships
Our players will travel to Samsun, Turkey for the event which takes place between July 18 and 30, where they will join elite athletes from around the world. Talent alone is not going to bring home the medals. Whilst both players are training hard to get themselves in peak condition for the competition, they will still need your support.
Deaflympic athletes to not receive any Lottery funding and therefore Paul and Steven will be relying on your support to help raise a total of £7,500 for UK Deaf Sport to get them to the first tee.
