Story
Some words from my sister, Vikki:
When I woke up on 29th Dec 2019 I was 39wks pregnant with a massive bump and getting ready to introduce my eldest daughter to her little sister.
By the time I went to bed that same day I had spent hours in hospital, had multiple scans and had it confirmed that my babies heart had stopped and she was no longer alive. The next 72hrs were a whirlwind of emotion, numbness and devastation, having to inform my family and friends and prepare to give birth to a baby I knew had already gone. It's not really an experience I can describe, because there really aren't the words.
What I can tell you is that in those immediate hours and days, and pretty much every day since, I have been supported by countless nurses, counsellors and other bereaved families and that without that support I am not quite sure where or what I'd be. They have, quite literally, saved me.
Our biggest support, right from the off, came from Zephyr’s, a
Nottingham based charity supporting families after child loss at any stage. They held us right from the word go, offering care, a space to share and invaluable support both in the early days and right through our next pregnancy, with wonderfully bought us our youngest daughter, now 7mnths old.
So, in thanks to Zephyr’s, Ffion’s Uncle and Grandad will be running the Robin Hood Half Marathon. During a time when so many of us are experiencing isolation, Zephyr’s are vital in keeping bereaved families connected by offering a safe, confidential and compassionate space to talk and connect with others who have gone through similar experiences. I know that right now so many people are experiencing financial difficulties, but if you can give even £1, I promise your money will do something amazing.
