Stuart Celebrating 60 · 8 June 2017

We are the Church of England churches in Stamfordham, Matfen and Ryal. We care for three ancient buildings, support the work and ministry of our Vicar and congregation and aim to be a blessing to our communities.

Story

I am a professor of Geriatric Medicine, and I love working with older people.

Within the next ten years the number of people on the planet living over the age of 60 will reach one billion; this is something that has never  happened before. It is a cause for celebration that humanity has never
had so much knowledge, wisdom and experience as we do now.  Older people are at the front line of the human ageing experience and turning 60 years old has given me cause to reflect upon, and celebrate my own ageing.

I have decided to celebrate  with a series of activities that I love, and use these activites as a focus for fundraising for causes dear to my heart.

So this year I committed to:

  • Go on a 1000km bike ride
  • Swim a mile in in the Great Scottish Swim in Loch Lomond
  • Climb Helvellyn
  • Sail across the Atlantic

I  did the bike ride at the end of May, the swim in August, went up Helvellyn in September and will be setting off across the Atlantic on 19th November in the Atlantic Rally.

I am doing this in aid of St. Mary's Church Development Fund, Stamfordham community

"We Look after our ancient church building to enable the present community to thrive"

St.  Mary's is an ancient church building in the village of Stamfordham and our Development fund helps us to restore the building, keep the building  running and heated and support future church projects so that the church community can be a blessing now and in the future.

Please give generously.
