Story
In September 2024 our family was dealt a heartbreaking blow when our youngest son was diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer. A rare cancer for someone of Graeme’s age. Enduring months of pain and suffering from the cancer and the gruelling treatment, undergoing many weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
May 2025 was a devasting month with the previous treatment being unsuccessful and the aggressive cancer growing and having a devastating impact on Graeme, who was by now, unable to speak or eat.
A further round of massive radiotherapy and commencement of immunotherapy treatment have made a big impact, enabling Graeme to marry his soulmate and the love of his life, Kate, this August, something that was unthinkable back in May.
Throughout all of this, Graeme has never complained, questioned, ‘Why me?’ or moaned, instead facing all of his appointments and treatments with stoicism, courage, bravery and humour, a shining example to us all.
We are so proud and privileged to call Graeme our son and are in total awe of his indomitable spirit and courage.
In September 2025, I have challenged myself to take on the Northumberland Coast Mighty Hike to help raise money for people living with cancer.
There are currently 3 million people living with cancer in the UK today. It's Macmillan's goal to be there for everyone from the moment of diagnosis.
MacMillan Cancer Support have been there for Graeme and our family and hopefully, I can raise £250, which can pay for a Macmillan Nurse for one day. Each Nurse is invaluable, offering essential medical, practical and emotional support to cancer patients and their loved ones.
I'd be so grateful if you could help support our fundraising for this wonderful essential charity.
Thank you from the Souter family.
