STUART'S STORY

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I would like to tell you about the most amazing, sensitive and loving man you could ever have met and he just happened to be my  husband.

Stuart was an inspiration to everyone he met.  He had the biggest Heart of Gold and time for everyone.  He never looked down on anyone.  He would say "don't look down on anyone unless you are helping them up".

Stuart began running in 2006 after our son Stephen persuaded him to go out a run with him.  During the years 2006 to 2015 until Stuart sadly passed away he had ran over 150 half marathons, numerous 10Ks, 5Ks and 4 Ultra Marathons.

In February 2014 Stuart suffered a Cardiac Arrest.  He was shocked 36 times and his heart had stopped beating during this time, but Stuart bounced back and within 5months was back at work and running half marathons once more.  Every Wednesday without fail no matter what the weather had in store he would be out training with our daughter Nicola.  This is when he set his sights higher and began training for ultra marathons.  Stuart never stopped during these last 14 months of his life donating to different charities along the way.  One of the ultra marathons was the Jedburgh 3 Peaks.  Stuart ran this one and raised funds for a defibrillator for our local surgery.

On 1st March 2015 he abseiled of the Forth Rail Bridge for the bridges 125 anniversary.  On this occasion he donated £450 to CHASS.  On 4th April 2015 he ran the 55 mile Ultra from Glasgow to Edinburgh.  Stuart's very last run was the Angus Ham on the 12th April 2015 where he ran the half marathon with our son Ross.

Stuart had been given a second chance of life after his first Cardiac Arrest and he made the most of these 14 months to help others as he always did.  Now we as a family in Stuart's memory are doing all we can to help raise money for CHASS.

At Stuart's funeral £1,000 was collected and donated to CHASS.  Since then more money has been raised from Stuart's place of work at Leven Social Works where work colleagues held a Charity Lunch in Stuart's honour when a tree was planted and a bench erected with his name and inscription - RUNNING IS A GIFT, START UNKNOWN, FINISH UNFORGETTABLE and again £600 was donated to CHASS.

Local Postman Paul Roarty set up a Memorial Run called STUART DUNCAN MEMORIAL 5K which was a huge success and is now to become an Annual Event with monies being donated to CHASS.  £362 was donated on this occasion.

All this is being done to keep alive the memory of my wonderful, loving husband, father of my 5 children, grandad to 11 grandchildren and foster father to Guy.
