Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·

Previously called the Early Births Fund, the fund was set up in 2003 with the aim of raising £250,000 to provide additional intensive care cots for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This goal was achieved in 2 short years. The fund has continued on to support babies, families & staff on the NICU.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Just over a year ago my sister-in-law and her husband became parents to their first child, a little girl they named Maggie.

Maggie was born 15 weeks early at 24 weeks and five days and so required 24 hour care in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care unit at St. Peter's Hospital in Chertsey. Maggie battled very hard but after 19 days the fight was just too much and the machines that were keeping her alive were switched off while Mummy and Daddy cuddled her off to sleep.

Everyone that was involved in Maggie's care at the hospital did an amazing job, all the staff worked tirelessly day in and out to give the babies and parents the much needed support that is required. It is because of this that my sister-in-law and her husband decided they wanted to give something back to the hospital for all the support and kindness they showed whilst at the hospital and also to help other parents that have their babies at the unit.

I also wanted to help as this charity has become close to my heart too, those of you that know me know that I hate running so what better thing to do than run the London Marathon.

Please dig deep and give whatever you can.

Every single penny really does make a huge difference to many little lives and their parents that go through what my family did.

Thank you once again for reading this.
