Paris Marathon 2014 · 6 April 2014 ·

The main purpose of AKPA is to help improve the quality of life for patients who are being treated for kidney disease at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and its satellite dialysis units. They provide financial and welfare support for kidney patients and campaign to improve their conditions.

Story

I'm running the Paris marathon this Sunday - after agreeing to take the place of an injured colleague just 11 days ago...a full 17 days before the event!

As part of the run, I am collecting sponsorship for the charity Addenbrooke's Kidney Patients Association (AKPA). AKPA's main purpose is to help improve the quality of life for patients at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge who are suffering from kidney disease

Why am I supporting AKPA? After 45 years of living with insulin dependant type 1 Diabetes, my Dad's kidneys stopped working in 2002. Following 3 years of haemodialysis (4-6 hour sessions, 3 times week) he was fortunate to receive a life changing kidney donation in November 2006. Throughout this entire period, AKPA provided invaluable support to my Dad and our family

I would be extremely grateful if you could support me & the AKPA

Fair to say boredom from my extensive 3 run training programme has not been an issue! And no, I've never run a marathon before, was not in training & I fully expect that guy in the diving suit to overtake me

All support greatly received

Thanks in advance,
Stuart
