Story
I’ve run five marathons in the last 15 years but have never attempted anything like Snowdonia. It’s a mix of road and trail and will involve three big ascents, on average I’ll be climbing 32 metres per mile (which means the flat equivalent distance is actually over 29 miles). It will be tough and I’m grateful for any sponsorship I can get.
A number of friends and colleagues have suffered from poor mental health and it’s a much bigger problem than many realise. One in four people in the UK suffers each year and over a third of employees who suffered didn’t tell anyone at work. I’m proud to work for an organisation with a strong mental health agenda and an ambition to promote an atmosphere where all employees feel they can talk about their mental health openly and honestly.
I’ve therefore decided to run Snowdonia for SANE, a fantastic UK-wide charity that works to improve the quality of life for people affected by mental illness. SANE seeks to raise awareness and combat stigma about mental illness, to provide care and emotional support for people with mental health problems, and to initiate research into the causes and treatments of serious mental illness.
