Tony's Stupid Christmas Project

Tony Blews is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support

Stupid Christmas Project · 26 October 2022

The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

What are you doing?

From the start of Advent (November 27th)
until at least the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas (January 6th,
Epiphany), I’ll do an evolving Nativity Scene with at least one photo a
day, telling a story. Not, probably The Greatest Story Ever Told.

Oh, it’ll all be “practical” and “in
camera”, with no sneaky CGI or any of that marlarkey (well, apart from
scaling the images to fit the site design.

And I’ll exhort people to donate to my JustGiving page for Macmillan, with an undisclosed target.

Why are you doing this?

My dad died of cancer (ironically I
refused to use the big “C”) when I was 11. My uncle died of cancer
before I was born. My best friend is on his third cancer. Another good
friend lost her mother, and her brother to it. And a good friend died
this month of it. I’ve lost 7 friends in 5 years, and the girlfriend has
lost 3 family members in 3 years. Currently 8 of my friends are either
in treatment or in remission.

I’m in my early fifties, and I’m a smoker
and quite a heavy drinker, so I’m pretty much on the hit-list
(personally I think heart disease will get me first, as I’ve already had
one heart attack). So it is time to act!

So, what am I doing in this fight against
cancer? What can a 51 year old nobody who lacks a Doctorate in
Bio-Chemistry really do?

Mess about with LEGO, obviously!
