We support people with Spinal Cord Injury to help them live full, independent lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I never thought I would be brave enough to swim in a lake, never mind the English Channel, but during the Covid-19 pandemic, my sister, Lou, introduced me to Spring Lakes (Long Eaton) and I loved it. Then she introduced me to the amazing Virginia at New Bath Hotel Lido. Virginia has always dreamt of swimming the Channel and was looking for some brave souls to join her adventure. Never being one to turn down a challenge, how could I refuse?

We found Aspire, who do incredible work helping people following spinal cord injury and are also expert at supporting Channel swims, so it is a match made in Heaven!

The training and qualification to swim the Channel in a relay team is daunting (90 minutes swimming in water below 16 degrees, followed by another 60 minutes an hour later), so I am swimming as often as possible to improve my technique, stamina and speed. I am worried about the sea sickness, jellyfish and swimming in cold water without a wetsuit, but our team is incredible and I am sure we will get through all of the highs and lows together.
